African Civilian Standby Roster
The African Civilian Standby Roster for Humanitarian and Peace Building Missions (AFDEM) identifies qualified individuals to serve as civilian specialists in peacekeeping and peace building. Candidates are registered in AFDEM’s database and are available for rapid deployment in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. With the support of Training for Peace, AFDEM facilitates the rapid deployment of trained civilian personnel to United Nations and African peace support missions.
About AFDEM
African Civilian Response Capacity for Peace Support Operations (AFDEM) supports international peace operations through the management of a civilian capacity of African experts who have the requisite skills & qualifications and are available for deployment in peace/humanitarian missions. AFDEM works closely with agencies (UN, AU, INGOs etc) requiring experts often on short notice.

To identify qualified and experienced African civilian personnel and place them on the roster so that they are readily available for deployment on field missions.

Who is eligible to register?
Individuals who are citizens or legal residents of an African country and who have the relevant skills and expertise needed in peace operations. Fields of expertise required embraces all substantive as well as Mission Support functions (see AFDEM web site).
Individuals are thoroughly screened in a multi-step process before they are registered on the roster. The process gives AFDEM an in-depth knowledge of applicants’ skills and expertise thus assurance of quality
