Partner Institutions
The following institutions are partners in the Training for Peace programme:
The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) provides the United Nations and the African Union with mission preparedness training via its Civilian Peacekeeping and Peace-building Courses, as well as in-mission training courses in conflict management and civil-military coordination. The Training for Peace programme also supports the African Union Peace Support Operations Division, as well as the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade, the Economic Community of West African States and the Southern African Development Community with the development of civilian dimensions of the African Standby Force.
The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) facilitates specialised training, research, publications and policy development in support of ongoing efforts to establish regional capacities for peacekeeping and peace-building interventions by the African Union, the United Nations Regional Economic Communities and Member States. The institute conceptualises, informs and enhances the debate on human security in Africa in order to support policy formulation, implementation and decision making at all levels.
The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) conducts training courses in and research into the full spectrum of multi-dimensional peace support operations; from peacemaking to peacekeeping and post-conflict peace building. Other areas include investigating the causes and course of conflicts in West Africa and generating appropriate policy for effective conflict prevention and resolution.
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) conducts research on peacekeeping operations both in-mission and in relation to ongoing policy processes. Current research focuses on issues within the Protection of Civilian frame, gender issues including the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 1325, and the development of strategic concepts of peacekeeping and peace-building operations. The institute also plays a part in promoting the programme and coordinating common research projects between the Training for Peace partners.
Recently Training for Peace has engaged with the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade Coordination Mechanism (EASBRICOM) in Nairobi, to develop the police and civilian dimension for EASBRIG.
The Norwegian National Police Directorate , supported by Nordic colleagues, contributes to mission specific training with TfP partners, as appropriate.
