AFDEM Advises EASBRIG
As AFDEM’s role is increasing in rostering issues on the African continent, the organisation was invited to attend a CIS Rostering workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, organized by EASBRICOM the coordinating body for the East African Brigade.
Following the Dar es Salaam rostering workshop, EASBRIG made a decision to go ahead with the process of creating their civilian standby roster. This would serve as a recruitment base for EASBRIG and AU peace support operations.
AFDEM’s role was to lead the process in advising EASBRIG on the considerations they have to make so as to create a functional effective roster. As this is a new concept on the continent and AFDEM is the only roster in Africa to have such experience, its input is considered valuable to the process. AFDEM gave a presentation on the overall concept of rosters, touching on the background, the value as a recruitment mechanism, the various roster models EASBRIG could consider, roster management best practices among others. A detailed practical example was given with AFDEM detailing its operations especially on recruitment and deployment.
Following the Nairobi workshop, AFDEM has since been invited for the EASBRIG IT training held in Djibouti and also a Training of Trainers workshop in Uganda. Other than the advisory role AFDEM is currently playing there is an opportunity for AFDEM to become an EASBRIG partner providing a roster service to the East African Standby Force.
