Support Models for African Peacekeeping, Uppsala, 15 &16 December

Whilst there can be no one model that can serve all contexts and needs, more can be done to ensure predictable funding mechanisms, as well as to develop meaningful coordination mechanisms between the AU, EU and UN. Such is the conclusion from a seminar in Uppsala 15 and 16 December.

Enhancing the Peacekeeping-Peacebuilding Nexus, Oslo, 25 & 26 October

The seminar in Oslo discussed the role of peacekeeping in institution- and state-building, peacekeeping and local peacebuilding, and transitions from peacekeeping to peacebuilding.

Bridging gaps in the management of African national and regional peacekeeping efforts

Sustaining police deployments and targeting such deployments on professional Police officers with special knowledge and skill sets for specific mission scenarios is the most recurring 2-fold issue for peace operations within the continent. This is one of the conclusions from the 4th EAPCCO/SARPCCO High Level seminar which was held in Windhoek, Namibia, from 28-30 November 2011.

Female police officers trained to go to Darfur

 An all-female contingent of one hundred and one (101) police officers have been trained under the KAIPTC /Training for Peace (TfP) in Africa programme.

 

The programme has the following partner institutions: ACCORD, ISS, KAIPTC and NUPI.
The programme is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Support is also provided to Eastern Africa Standby Brigade Coordination Mechanism (EASBRICOM) and African Civilian Standby Roster for Humanitarian and Peace Building Missions (AFDEM), and the Norwegian National Police Directorate supports the training activities.
