Encourages Norwegian Police Officers
Police Advisor for the Eastern Africa Standby Coordination Mechanism (EASBRICOM), Bjørn Hareide, presented Training for Peace in Africa in a wide-ranging interview to the Norwegian daily Aftenposten.
Hareide stressed, among other issues, that “prior to the deployment of military forces, long-term thinking is of the essence. A state leader must realise that as soon as an armed dispute is over, a police force has to be in place. By then, civil society must function, the judicial system should be built and the people should live safely”.
Police Advisor Bjørn Hernes encourages Norwegian colleagues to throw themselves into international service.
- It’s both challenging and meaningful to work in East Africa, he concludes.
