New Head of TfP at ISS

Henri Boshoff is the new Head of the Training for Peace in Africa Programme at ISS. He worked as a Military Analyst for the Africa Security Analysis Programme at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) Tshwane (Pretoria) office for eight years before taking up the position as Head of the Training for Peace Programme in April 2009. His areas of expertise are terrorism, peacekeeping, support to the police and African politics.

The former Head of Programme, Col Festus Boahen Aboagye, will continue at the ISS Tshwane (Pretoria) office, and currently serves as senior research fellow in the TfP Programme. He joined the TfP Programme at ISS in 2004 and has been a significant contributor to the development of the TfP Programme.

The TfP Programme at ISS is carried out by staff at both the Pretoria and Nairobi Offices for support in Southern and Eastern Africa respectivelyThis arrangement has allowed dedicated support to the Eastern Africa region, particularly to EAPCCO, and freed the Pretoria Office to focus more on support to SARPCCO and the AU PSOD.

ISS has planned the following TfP training courses and task team meetings for the second half of 2009:

• SARPCCO UNPOC Trainers Course, Lesotho, 20-31 July 2009

• Pilot Trainers’ Course on Violence Against Women and Children in Botswana between 17-22 August 2009

• SARPCCO Violence Against Women and Children Task Team Meeting on 23 August 2009 to endorse and effect any changes in the VAWC training manual

• SADC RPTC Police UNPOC course, Zimbabwe, 3 -14 September 2009.06.30 SARPCO UNPOC Trainers Clinic, Swaziland, 14-25 September 2009

• High Level Gender Seminar to be held in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to be held between 28-30 September 2009

• HIV/AIDS Trainers’ Course to be held in Malawi between 19-23 October 2009
