Research and Policy Development
The research at the Training for Peace programme provides a platform for reflecting perspectives on key issues in peacekeeping and peace-building operations based on knowledge of the field. Attention is given to lessons-learned and best practices from the field as well as developments at the doctrinal level.

The research programme also involves collaborative research between the institutions involved in order to bring together the strength and competencies of all Training for Peace partners. Research findings are fed into and improving the training curricula and seek to inform ongoing policy debates.
Current research can be broadly grouped under:
- Evolving strategic concepts of operation, with a special emphasis on the increasing importance of civilians and police in peacekeeping operations, the importance of local conflict management, as well as questions of integration and coordinatio
- Protection of vulnerable groups and civilians in conflict and post-conflict settings
- Gender sensitivity and mainstreaming, including focus on sexual and gender-based violence as well as HIV/AIDS.
