Training

African government officials, police officers, non-governmental organisations and military personnel participate in training courses, both as instructors and participants. Training for Peace contributes to the development of a robust and flexible capacity to handle regular and urgent pre-deployment and in-mission training requests.

Use the calendar to the right to find training courses provided by Training for Peace in 2010.

Training for Peace aims at meeting three important challenges:

  • To increase the number of trained African civilian and police personnel serving at the strategic level as well as lower level participants in the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities and United Nations peace operations.
  • To increase the number of trained female personnel deployed in the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities and United Nations peace operations.
  • To build a sustainable pool of appropriately skilled African trainers based in relevant regional institutions and African states.

Various training courses are provided by Training for Peace partners in Africa depending on regional and mission needs. The programme in particular focuses on enhancing the skills and expertise of civilian specialists in the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities and the United Nations.

Training for Peace offers civilian peacekeeping and peace building, conflict management, civil-military coordination and police officers training courses. These courses are conducted in various formats, e.g. mission preparedness, pre-deployment, induction and in-mission training courses.
