ACCORD

The TfP programmme at ACCORD specializes in providing effective training and capacity-building support towards developing the required civilian capacity and capability for the African Union (AU) African Standby Force (ASF) and to improve the professionalism of civilian staff serving in current AU and UN peace operations on the continent.

ACCORD offers foundation (introductory to peacekeeping and peacebuilding), specialised (Conflict Management, including conflict analysis, negotiations and mediation and Civil-Military Coordination) and tailor-made courses (Skills development training to achieve specific aspects of mission mandates) within its flagship Civilian Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Course (CPPC) series.

The foundation courses are usually five days with the (in-mission) specialised and tailor-made courses conducted for three days; all following adult-based learning approaches and methodologies and based on request from the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/ Regional Mechanisms (RMs) and UN missions.

ACCORD’s training courses for the AU currently focuses on contributing towards the professionalism of the civilian personnel of the mission and also to support RECs/RMs – the building blocks of the ASF, in preparing civilian participants ahead of regional exercises aimed at testing Regional Standby Forces as part of the ASF development process. For UN missions, the focus is on contributing towards improving the professionalism of UN Civil Affairs Offices who serve as interlocutors of UN missions at the local level.
